While blog-surfing, I found a blog (Coloradolady) with some cool pics of vintage collectibles. She has invited viewers to join her in Vintage Thingie Thursday by posting pics of their own vintage treasures. I was enjoying seeing what other viewers had chosen to post and decided to post a pic of my own.
The cutest thing about this little washboard is the writing on the top saying it's ideal for silks, lingerie and hosiery. Can you just imagine washing your hosiery on those rough metal ridges? Oh, it also says it's the perfect size for traveling as it fits in a suitcase or small travel bag. Makes you think about how things have changed.........

Too funny--maybe they wore something that could stand up to that kind of scrubbing.
ReplyDeleteTheir hosery was probably like the tights or heavy duty leggings!!! Love the washboard anyways! Good decoration piece.
ReplyDeleteFlannel lingerie?, wool hosiery? but I can't think of anything that would make me want to wash silk on a washboard! Love the washboard-thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteyour washboard looks good! but I would rather wash my lingerie by hand.. hehehehehe have a great day..
ReplyDeleteNo, I can't imagine washing hosiery on that, actually I think it would be soooo rough on your hands, I am sure the women who used them had plenty of scraped up knuckles. OUCH, glad I have a washing machine. :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Vinage Thingie Thursday! Love your washboard. I am glad you found my blog and decided to participate.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who is from Victoria and who's mother lived there her whole life. I was surprised to see that is where you were from too.
Welcome again, and I will look forward to seeing you next week for Vintage Thingie Thursday!
Love the washboard, I know my Mom used on for awhile when I was little. I would hate to have to use one...lol..no wonder clothes were so rough, had to be to survive that thing...haha.
ReplyDeleteChecked out your blocks I really love them. I think quilts are so beautiful.
LOL! I'll have to remember to pack my washboard next time I travel. =) Thanks for sharing, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteWOW it's a little beauty..i love it :)
ReplyDeletethat's neat! We went on wheat harvest one year in the seventies and my mom bought a washboard in her zeal of picking up and moving. I think it's always been a decoration! Love your header!
ReplyDeleteLove your header..and the little washboard is one of my favorites as well. I had forgotten all about them till you showed yours..now I have to search thru storage for them. :). Now, I'm off to look some more on your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend..
I used to have one of those-I wonder what happened to it........

What a neat treasure! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine doing your laundry on this cute little thing. I think it's perfect on the wall with the ivy around it. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteA portable washing machine with a gentle cycle....man that's pretty innovative!
ReplyDeleteCute post.
Like your washboard. I've got a couple of those that were my mom's. And I have a little one where the middle part is glass and it says it's for lingerie. Last week I posted about old irons and a wooden wash stand.
