Lots To Do

What a day! I am exhausted—I needed to go to Hobby Lobby before I headed home, but I didn’t make it. I decided I was too tired. I will go by there this morning after exercise class. I did, however, make it as far as Popeye’s where I picked up chicken for supper. It was a good day to not have to cook.

I forgot to take pictures of the new BOM. Maybe today, if I remember. I should put a reminder on my phone. I got a quilt quilted and bound. It’s a challenge quilt Marian made.

I think the challenge fabric was the floral. It’s a nice quilt, and as always, her work is darn near perfect.

I got two small ones quilted for Rhonda, but I need to make binding for both of them and get it put on before I take pictures.

Betty had given me a top she made with the “Boys of the Bible” pattern. It’s 107” x 110”. I need a quilt for the Luther Fest auction, and bigger is better for the auction. I was planning to do this one
for the auction, but I can’t seem to find the time to get it finished. I decided I will quilt and bind the Boys of the Bible quilt and donate it instead. I asked Betty about it, and she said she will be okay with whatever I do with it. She gave me a three yard cut of wide backing that’s the right color, but it’s not big enough, so I spent the afternoon trying to make it bigger. Luckily, she had also given me the extra cut-offs from the quilt. I should be able to make it work.

I will be busy tomorrow working on binding some of the Poppy quilts for the Fabric Friends donations. One of the ladies texted last night and asked if I would also come to their shop on Saturday and help assemble poppy blocks. I will do what I can.

Catching Up

I’m still trying to get caught up, and it might be a losing battle! I’ve been busy quilting most days, and I’ve gotten a few customer quilts done. This one was a challenge.

I think it’s super cute, but there are lots of appliqués, and some of the flowers had padding in the centers. I had to use the computer to mask out the padded parts, and I try really hard not to do custom work, but I am counting the masking as custom (although I’m not charging her for custom). There is a lot of texture because Dinah brought me the extra loft poly batting! I really like the blocks with the yoyo flowers.

I just may use this idea in a future quilt, or more likely on a tea towel.

I got Penny’s donation quilt finished, and she picked it up yesterday.
It turned out really nice, and she dropped off three more for me to quilt. She had been on a retreat and was able to accomplish a lot.

I don’t have pictures of all the projects I have made for Luther Fest and they have already been taken to the church. Janice contributed three sets of placemats, and Betty brought me a stack of bowl cozies, and I had done some potholders and tea towels. Thank God for friends! I was asked if I could do some potato bags, so I will work on that this week. I have the fabric; I just need to pre wash it, which I will do today. I’m typically not a pre washer, but for items that will be used in the kitchen, particularly for food prep, I think pre washing is necessary since they will be laundered frequently.

I went to Ganado Saturday to pick up my block of the month. I didn’t take pictures of it yet, so I’ll hold off on that until tomorrow.

Victoria Quilt Show Part 3

I think this should be all of the 2025 quilt show pictures. I try to divide it up evenly so that each post is not too photo heavy. But first, here’s a couple of pictures I took yesterday at Serenity’s volleyball game.

Their mascot got a new costume this year. The old one was looking a little shabby.

Their team is the gators, in case you couldn’t tell.

Now for the quilt show pics:

These are the challenge quilts. They’re all small—about 18” x 20”, I think.

Unfortunately, I didn’t finish mine, and now I can’t remember that much about it. I think they gave us some small pieces of birdhouse fabric that we were supposed to embellish.

These are the kids classes we taught this summer:

These are the disappearing nine patch blocks.

And these are from the collage class:

Victoria Quilt Show Part 2

I have some more photos to share. I was able to do some editing on the pictures, so hopefully they will be a little better than the last batch.

I believe I have enough pictures for one more quilt show post. I did notice, however that I apparently failed to take pictures of the collage quilts the kids made at the class we taught. I’m going to text a few people and see if anyone else has a picture of them.

I took a two-hour nap Sunday, and slept all night Sunday night. I was too tired to sleep Saturday night, and my hips were hurting, so I only got two hours of sleep then. I feel pretty good now. In fact, I got up yesterday morning and went to my cardio class. I could have easily talked myself out of it, but then where does that end? I think it’s best to keep moving if I can.

Victoria Quilt Show 2025

The quilt show is officially over, and we are all pretty tired. But first, let me say the steroid shot I got in my finger earlier in the week helped me so much! I did the demo on Friday of English paper piecing, and of course that is hand stitching. I was a little concerned that my finger would give me problems, but all was well. I still can’t straighten it all the way, but I keep pushing it back with the other hand to exercise the muscles, which should help eventually. It takes time.

Anyway, I think the quilt show was a success! The vendors were happy with their sales, and we had good attendance. I took pictures of the quilts to share here on the blog!

Unfortunately, I was too tired to edit the pictures. I will try and edit the rest of them before I post them.

I have church today. I need to get to the church by 7:00 am to unlock the doors. We are planning to transition soon to one service per Sunday instead of an early service and a late service, and it can’t happen soon enough for me! We really don’t have a high enough attendance to justify two services, and it’s too much work for the volunteers (church council, usher/greeters, music and worship team, etc.). I’m hoping the transition is successful and will work for everyone.
