Progress!

I am so happy with all the things I got done yesterday, and some of them are actually on my to-do list. This one wasn't:

It's a quilt that was pieced by one my favorite customers, and I got the quilting finished. She's such a nice lady, and all of her quilts are colorful and scrappy--just my style. She also made a scrappy back.

I recognize these fabrics as pieces I trimmed off the back of other quilts I have quilted for her. Of course, I always return the cut-away pieces, and she managed to use them, so kudos to her!

After I finished Chris's quilt, I finished the borders on this one:

This one was on my to-do list, so that's one thing checked off. And, here's another one I can check off:

Two borders in one day is pretty good for me--I have been known to stall out on the borders. Having a to-do list helps me get things done that I would otherwise procrastinate on, so I'm counting this as a win!

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-17-23

 It's been a busy week, but I managed to get a few things accomplished. Here's the progress:

1) Bind Bohemia quilt. Yes! 

2) Cut out another charity quilt. Yes. I actually cut out three more.

There is another of the dinosaur print ones that didn't make it into the picture.

3) Borders for the two vintage quilts. No. I thought about it a little, but I didn't do it.

Now it's a new week; the weather is beautiful; and I need to get back on track. I'm not sure what I will want to work on as I don't a strong desire to do any particular project, but I will make a list and see what happens.

1) Get charity quilts put together and get the borders done. There are four ready to go if you count this one that only needs the outer borders:

2) Cut out another charity quilt from the Lickety Split pattern.

3) Put the borders on the two vintage quilts.

4) Start working on a quilt a lady wants me to make from some vintage blocks made by her late mother.

That should be enough to keep me busy and focused. Today I will be at church working on comfort quilts and tomorrow Janice is coming to Victoria so we can go see a travel agent about a trip we're planning for March. More on that later!

Weekend Update.

Oh my, I am tired. I’m so glad Lutherfest is over for another year. I was at the church Saturday cutting 50 pounds of onions and bagging cookies. A bag of three cookies is put on the to-go plates; anyone dining in gets a piece of cake or pie. On Friday I baked six dozen cookies and 4 dozen cupcakes. The cupcakes were for the cake wheel. Saturday evening I baked four cakes, also for the cake wheel. Here are some pictures from Sunday. The serving line:

We served barbecue chicken, beans, German potatoes, and coleslaw. 

There was a live auction. Here’s some of the stuff being auctioned:

Isn’t that funny? A bale of hay and some bags of cow feed!

We also had a silent auction which filled two of the Sunday school rooms.

The money raised by this festival funds Christ’s Kitchen, Perpetual Help Home (a women’s shelter), and Victoria Christian Assistance Ministries. 

I had a little time to sew—not much. I cut out a few pieces for some of my charity quilts.

I cut enough for two of the dinosaurs quilts and one of the jungle animals and started sewing the squares together. I moved my little 3/4 size sewing machine to the breakfast nook so I could sew while I was waiting for the oven timer, and I was able to get a little bit done. 

I found this blog last night via Pinterest. It’s interesting, and of course, I am always interested in being more productive. I think there’s some really good takeaways here. The section about meal planning is great, although I am not into shopping virtually. There is a lot I can apply from sections 1-8, but that’s where it ends. Section 9 is Get Organized, and Section 10 is Delegate When You Can. I can’t do much with that. I’m not organized and have never been, and I don’t have anyone to delegate to. It’s just me, so there is no delegating.

Friday the 13th

I'm generally not superstitious, so Friday the 13th doesn't bother me a bit. I'm not sure why it's even considered bad luck, although I know the movie didn't help any, and some people say 13 is an unlucky number. I don’t consider it to be unlucky.

Luck or not, I got the binding finished on Cathy's quilt.

The back was an olive green ombre, and that's what I used for the binding. The shading was pretty subtle on the binding, so it looks good. Speaking of ombre, I also got my Bohemia quilt bound.

I used a purple flange, which I like.

I was in a hurry to get finished and didn't do a perfect job on getting the binding overlapped evenly, but I am not planning to re-do it. I need to move on to other things. Like this:

I got the pinwheels added to the top and bottom of this cute top. All I need now is a border to tie it all together. I can make girl-friendly quilts all day long as I have lots of fabrics with flowers and paisleys and butterflies, but not too many boy-friendly fabrics. I am now making a point to look for the more masculine prints when I hit a good sale or find large pieces with the rolled remnants at JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby.

Today I am baking cakes and cookies for church. I need three cakes and three dozen cookies, and I'm praying the weather won't be too hot as I will need to have the oven on all day. 

A Quick Update

I think fall is finally here. It was 57 degree’s when I got up Saturday morning. I went to a soccer game at 9am and failed to wear a jacket because I expected it to warm up. It didn’t! Isn’t this the cutest goalie you ever saw? 

It was almost worth being cold! I knew I had a quilt in the car, but it was a pretty long hike back to the parking lot, so I never did go and get it. I guess I need to go back to keeping a jacket in the back of the car.

Everyone else seems to be in a fall mood as well. I just finished this panel for a new customer:

I’m not sure if she’ll be a repeat customer as she is not really a quilter; I think this is her first one. But you never know, and if nothing else, she may refer me to other people. I also worked on Kathy’s fall quilt. It’s softer colors, but I like it.

I forgot the name of the quilt design, but I’m doing it in Glide celery thread, and it looks really nice.

I will need to put a binding on it tomorrow. She wants me to use the leftover backing for the binding which is a green ombré. I think it will look good.

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-10-23

Hello Tuesday! The weather has been cooler, and I’m enjoying being outside more. Of course, that affects my sewing time, and ultimately my to-do list results. Let’s see how it all played out.

1) Finish piecing charity quilt I started last week. Yes.

I am still using the Lickety Split pattern. I had ten fat quarters of this cute doggie print.

2) See if I can get borders sewn on the two vintage quilts I bought. No.

3) Bind Bohemia quilt. No. I started making the binding, and then changed my mind and decided I wanted a flange binding, so slight delay on this one.

4) Bind four customer quilts Yes, thank goodness.

5) Make some potholders for Lutherfest silent auction. Yes. Plus a towel.

Not as bad as I expected, I guess. What’s on the list for this week? 

1) Bind Bohemia quilt.

2) Cut out another charity quilt.

3) Borders for the two vintage quilts.

I need to be a little realistic about what I can accomplish this week. Lutherfest is Sunday, and that will require set up time on Friday and Saturday, and I’ll need to make cookies and cakes on Friday. Plus, out of town visitors will be here Saturday.

Today we have a luncheon at church for Pastor Appreciation. Something ironic: I am usually asked to bring a dessert, and last time I didn’t have time to bake, so I picked up a cake at the grocery store bakery. This time, I was asked to bring a salad. What I'm Working On

I finally bit the bullet and put some pleats in the A&M fabric I was hoping to use for embellishment on a dish towel. 

In my defense, this is not heirloom stitching; I did no measuring or marking for the pleats. I just pressed some folds into the fabric with the iron, and then zigzagged the strip to the towel. I kept reminding myself: it's a dishtowel--don't spend too much time on it. Anyway, I wasn't happy with the way it looked when I tried to ruffle the strip, but I am okay with the pleats.

Here's the set, minus the cheese board that will go with it.

It was a Texas A&M kind of day, and I finished Vickie's quilt.

It's a queen size, so pretty big.

I have been (sort of) decluttering at the house. I found a box of fabric that needs to be dealt with and pulled out this piece to add to my charity stuff.

Isn't it cute? It's only a yard, and it is 44" wide. I will need to find a way to make it bigger before it can be quilted. I pulled out some possible pieces I can use to add borders.

I also pulled out some black and white polka dot that I want to use to make pinwheels to go along the top and bottom. I will take pictures of whatever I decide to do, but mostly, I am excited to work on it and get another piece or two out of the stash. 

Have a good weekend everyone. I am headed to a soccer game this morning. We had that nice rain a couple of days ago, so I am spraying myself down with OFF. I will take the can along in case anyone else needs some.
