One Goal Done

When I did the Tuesday To-Do List, I had said I wanted at least five customer quilts done and out the door. I have been keeping my nose to the grindstone (or in this case, the longarm), and I have six finished. Four were picked up yesterday, and I am delivering two of them today.

These are Hilda's:

You can really see the quilting on these. She is one of those ladies that likes the really poufy poly batting. Not my favorite to quilt, but I can make it work.

Like so many of us, Hilda is on a mission to use her stash and get some things finished. The top picture has baby pictures of a nephew who is now 23 years old, so it's never too late to get the tops out and get them quilted so they can be passed on to where ever they need to go. She is going out of state to visit family and wanted to take some of these to give away. Hopefully, she had time to get the binding on everything before she left.

These two are just alike (almost):

Donna mailed these to me from New Mexico where she was vacationing. She also sent me a picture of the pattern which showed how they were quilted. I couldn't quite duplicate the quilting design, but I came up with a close facsimile.
I think these turned out super cute! I am meeting her for lunch today, and then these two will also be out of the shop.

I pretty much know what I need to work on this morning. I have two more finished that I need to bind, and I have another largish one I need to get loaded on the frame. I am trying really hard to get caught up--I have some charity tops I really want to work on, and another lady brought me some old blocks she wants made into a quilt.

Turkey Chili

I haven’t posted a recipe in a while! This is not traditional Texas-style chili, but it’s good! I had a package of HEB turkey chili in the freezer that I decided I needed to use, so I thawed it out with no clue what I was going to do with it. I had canned tomatoes, and a yellow bell pepper I wanted to use, so I decided on chili.

The best part? It’s low fat and weight watcher friendly. I calculated it to be about 3 points for a fairly generous serving. Maybe even lower considering the fiber in the beans.

Here’s what I used:
1 tube of turkey sausage
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can Rotel tomatoes
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can pinto beans
1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 heaping tbsp chili powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp canola oil

I cooked the onion and bell pepper in the canola oil and then added the turkey and browned it. Once the turkey was done, I dumped everything else in, brought it to a boil, then decreased the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. Super easy, and pretty tasty. It made about 7 servings. I froze half of it to enjoy later.

If you make it, let me know what you think.

Victoria Quilt Show Part 2

I know the last pictures I posted from the show were awful, but I spent an evening editing these. I did some cropping and some light adjustments, as I thought the others looked over-exposed because of the too-bright lighting. I will try to pick up where I left off.

These next two came from the border workshop we did in the winter. I still haven't finished mine.

I love both of them. Maybe it will inspire me to get mine back out and finish it!

To-Do-List Tuesday 9-27-23

I just looked at last week’s post to see how much I had gotten done on my list, and it looks like I never made a list for last week! I think I know what happened—I had to take my stepdad out of town, and I had written a quick draft of the post the day before to document my previous week’s progress and intended to go back and update it with a new list. Of course, it didn’t happen. It’s okay. I’ll start over this week with a new list. I know one of my goals was to get a hanging sleeve put on my show quilt, so here’s a picture of that.
And, here’s the rest of the Water Color blocks.
Officially done and ready to be made into a quilt top.

And, here’s my new list:
1) Finish at least five customer quilts and get them out the door. Taking four days off last week left me way behind on work stuff.
2) Get a border on Logging On quilt.
3) Finish piecing another charity quilt.
4) Photograph the things I bought at the quilt show and write a post about it.

It’s going to be a good week! I have very few appointments and other commitments, so I can get a lot done if nothing derails me. I think Betty and I are going to try and make a trip to Port Lavaca this week , but that’s it for my social calendar, haha. I hope everyone has something good to look forward to this week! I am linking to Quilt Schmilt.

Weekend Update

The Victoria Quilt Show took up most of my weekend, including Thursday and Friday. Sunday was church and then the Czech Fest, so not as much sewing time as I usually have.

Czech Fest was fun; some of my high school friends were there, and also my mom. Here’s a picture of her.

My friend Sherry is on the right, and my mom on the left. And one of me.

Sherry is our official photographer. She takes pictures all the time. I’m pretty sure this will show up on Facebook with me looking all exhausted. LOL. There was lots of food, beer, and music. The Czechoholics were playing

and my favorite, the Red Ravens.
All ages were enjoying the music.

So, I don’t think I had mentioned that I got the charm pack I ordered to finish the border on the Birthday Cake quilt. And, finish it I did.

I like it a lot and am anxious to see it quilted. One of my dogs has lost her mind and thinks she is supposed to be in every quilt picture I take.
What a goofball. She’s cute though.

I worked on some more blocks for the latest charity quilt but don’t have enough to post yet.

Victoria Quilt Show

The show went well, but I’m so glad it’s over. It’s a lot of work, and I’m exhausted. The quilts were great this year, and I took lots of pictures. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble getting them uploaded from my phone….I’ll show what I can and save the rest for another day.

Free Jelly Roll Patterns

Happy Friday! I will be working at the quilt show today and tomorrow. I was there yesterday afternoon for the set up, but they were mostly done by the time I got there so I didn’t have to stay too long.

Last week I posted one of the free patterns for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day, and I thought I would post the other three in case anyone hadn’t seen them. I found a link to all four patterns here. I don’t know how long they will have the patterns linked to their page, so I will go ahead and download them to my files. Here’s some pictures:

Did anyone participate in the Sew a Jelly Roll Day last Saturday? I wasn’t able to—I think I was putting binding on customer quilts that day. It would be nice to have a friend that I could sew with when there are special events like this one, but, unfortunately, we are all so busy, and running all the time, it never happens.
