It's finally here--my day to post my Villa Rosa blog hop projects! Each participant was sent these five patterns and asked to make one or more of the projects. If you are a frequent reader, you probably know I make a lot of the Villa Rosa patterns for my charity donations, so I was really surprised to receive five patterns I didn’t already have.
And, you know what? These really are fast and fun! The first one I picked was Gypsy. The name Gypsy refers to a variety of rose. You can see the picture in the upper corner of the card.It uses half a layer cake, and I had one on hand I wanted to use.It made a nice size baby quilt, 36” x 45”, and I had enough squares left to piece a second one. I loaded both tops onto a wide flannel back, and quilted them at the same time. One of my time-saving tricks!I’ve only managed to get one of them bound, but I love the way they turned out. The quilting really shows up on the fuzzy back.
The baby quilts worked up so fast, I decided to piece a table runner with a pretty gray and yellow charm pack.
It’s still pretty, just a little large. So my advice on this one is “stick with the pattern”!
It’s still pretty, just a little large. So my advice on this one is “stick with the pattern”!
It’s not bound yet, but I did manage to get it pieced and quilted. It’s a great pattern, and I love the way it turned out. I plan to bind it with the fabric I used for the cornerstones.
And, now the most important part--prizes! Here's the info from Villa Rosa:
There are many opportunities for you to win prizes during the blog hop:
- Individual bloggers may be hosting giveaways on their blogs for you to win. Please visit individual blogs to find out about their giveaways and how to register.

Those all look great! FYI: it would be very helpful to post the other blog participants and the links to them to make it easier for everyone to know where else to hop along to the other blogs too.
ReplyDeleteLove all the quilts you made from the patterns in the blog hop. Those baby quilts are adorable. I tried to find the option to sign up for your blog, but was unable to find anything. Please tell me how to sign up. Thanks for sharing. odiane79 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteForgot to tell you about my favorite precut to sew with.... I rarely use purchased precuts as I love to make scrappy quilts. My favorite size of cuts to use for my scrappy quilts is 2 1/2" strips. Thanks again.
DeleteThe baby quilt makes my heart happy. Bless you for doing so many charity quilts. jfoor@att.net
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts. Those baby quilts look like they went together so quickly. Today my favorite precut is a layer cake, lots of patterns for them. And you can cut it up into 4 charm packs as well!!
ReplyDeleteYour projects turned out great. I love your Twinkle quilt!! My favorite pre cut is a jelly roll. So many patterns use that size.
ReplyDeleteI love the Twinkle quilt. It’s good to know you can make 2 baby quilts out of a layer cake.
ReplyDeletejmvineyard@yahoo.com
Thanks for all the inspiration!! Your quilts are sew pretty. I am a fan of the layer cake as it seems so versatile. I am a new follower to your blog. ryarolim@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWow! You made short work of those precuts!! Congrats! All are adorable. Janice(dot)snell(at)gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like using a layer cake, very versatile. Thanks for sharing your oops with the table runner, we all learn from each other.
ReplyDeleteWow. Great prizes. I love Villa Rose patterns. They are such fun and I love your quilts. Great selection of colours for the pattern style. Thanks for the opportunity to win. I am a follower and my favourite cut is a fat quarter followed by lots and lots of coordinating yardage.........bonnielarson58(a)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is jellyroll. Lots of patterns call for 2.5” squares and I love a good patchwork! My pick of the patterns is Twinkle with Gypsy as the runner up. Smithcindyk@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have never used a layer cake but I think I'll pick one up.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is a layer cake! I like having a bigger piece to use and the option to cut it down 😻I’m a new follower, tobyyellow@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteLayer cakes to me are the most versatile although I seem to collect jelly rolls a lot too! Dlfmcq@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the material you used for these quilts and the table runner. My favorite is charm squares because there are so many VRD cards that use them. rem9640@aol.com
ReplyDeleteHappy St Paddy's Day!! I love all of your quilts!! The baby ones are adorable!! I think I like 10 in precuts best as they can be used so many different ways!!
ReplyDeleteThese patterns are so versatile! Love your baby quilt! JoyfullyTracie (at) gmail (dot) com

ReplyDeleteMy favorite cut is jelly roll! 2.5 inch strips are very versatile to me!
ReplyDeleteI can't find where to register for your blog. I hope to be entered into the drawing. sdblosser@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI would say fat quarters is my favorite precut to use. So many things to do with it.
I love the gypsy quilt!
I use fat quarters the most. If a pattern calls for 2.5" strips or another 'precut' shape I cut them from yardage. I really like your version of the blog hop patterns -- such fun to see how all the bloggers interpret the designs.
ReplyDeleteWow you did good! Your quilts are all beautiful. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI like different precuts for different reasons so don’t have a favorite but if I had to choose one I’d say fat quarters for the versatility. I love what you did with the fabrics and variety it creates with each project. Gypsy is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI like different precuts for different reasons so don’t have a favorite but if I had to choose one I’d say fat quarters for the versatility. I love what you did with the fabrics and variety it creates with each project. Gypsy is my favorite in the drawing. kcall1146@gmail.com. Kate Call
ReplyDeleteLove all your projects from the Villa Rosa pattern cards, I like Jelly Rolls most of the Quilt of Valor quilts use that cut . Thank You jsyoungsurgery@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarters. Mostly you can make other precuts yourself if needed. I love your three projects.
ReplyDeletedfrig@yahoo.com
Pretty table runner and quilt. Turn the runner so it drapes over the legs instead of the chairs, might fit better. Favorite precut depends on the project I'm working on. 24Tangant@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThat design is perfect for baby quilts - yours is lovely.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question - I think for me it would have to be fat quarters because I can use them in my landscapes.
(marmic1954@hotmail.com)
I most enjoy working with layer cakes if I am going to use a pre-cut. I think I like them for their flexibility.
ReplyDeletekathrie@yahoo.com
I like Fat Quarters because they have a little more fabric to work with.
ReplyDeleteI really like your gypsy quilt. For sewing I don't use a lot of precuts. Cut what I want out of yardage. Jillne1@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThe quilting you did on your baby quilt is amazing! I did not think the layer cake you used for Twinkle would look the way it did in the finished quilt. It woo is great.
ReplyDeletemlminnis@windstream.net
I enjoy jelly rolls as I have some fav quilt patterns to use for them. Love your Gypsy baby quilts and how you quilted both at the same time.
ReplyDeleteMary Lee
ReplyDeleteI especially love 2 1/2 inch strips because they are more versatile than they look. They also show all the fabrics when they are rolled so you can see them all together.
mlminnis@windstream.net
Great job on the quilts you shared! I enjoy Charm Packs, they are small, but not too small and there are many patterns that you can use Charms for.
ReplyDeletekdcamp4attelusdotnet
Love the baby quilts. My favorite precut are fat quarters, can use them for so many other types of precut patterns, very versatile
ReplyDeletekathy_cocker@yahoo.com
Ugh, I can’t figure out how to follow your blog. I checked on both the mobile and web version.
ReplyDeleteShell688 at aol dot com
I just followed your blog. I just made a quilt using the Opal Sky Layer Cake. The pastels were just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't find where to follow your blog. My favorite precuts are layer cakes. So much you can do with them. Love your Gypsy quilt. It is one of my favorites in the bundle. s_lmorris@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWow! You got busy stitching and made some very neat projects. Villa Rosa patterns are fast and allow for lots of creative design! My favorite precuts are layers cakes...plenty of fabric to make a block along with background fabric. I hope my signup to follow worked. Glad you're part of the blog hop! mrssummy@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pre-cuts are fat quarters as I can get more of the pattern and choose how to use the fabric. Thank you, Nadja, nbod@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with Gypsy! So cute! kshieldsquilter@zoominternet.net
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is a layer cake, so versatile!
ReplyDeletenikki_moshier at hotmail.com (not sure why I am anonymous!)
DeleteYour quilts and table runner turned out beautiful! Gypsy pattern is my favorite, and I love the colors you chose to go with it. The table runner is beautiful, even if a touch too big. I like fat quarters best. It seems to be more bang for your buck. Thanks for considering me for the contest! jason_burnside@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. I seem to use 2 1/2 strips a lot. I have trouble with the long cuts, keeping them exact, as I am older and just can't rely on my cutting anymore. I also love the Villa Rosa patterns and they are easier for me to use. I also couldn't seem to find where to sign up for your blog but will look again. brendafurlong@bellsouth.net This is a great blog hop!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn thanks for posting. Great job. I tend to buy charm packs or fat quarters. Yardage of my favorite in a fabric line
ReplyDeleteCharlenem622@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI like layer cakes or fat quarters as they show more of the design--but have also bought charm packs and jelly rolls--plus lots of patterns for all!! I am following your blog.
ReplyDeletebarbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)
I love 10”squares bc they can be used so many different ways! I really love your baby quilt. My email is Droseman58 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteI didn’t mean to publish as anonymous
Deletei found your blog through the villa rosa blog hop. pleasant surprise. i chose to follow you. i found your blog very interesting. my fav precut would have to be the 10" squares (after the fat quarter which is my absolute fav precut and got me the title of 'fat quarter queen'). thank you for the chance to win. patti in florida
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precuts are 10 inch squares because I can use them whole or cut them as needed for a little variety, and i get to see a whole collection of fabrics. Really like fat quarters for the same reason, but don't get the same variety for the money.
ReplyDeleteI like to use charms as a precut and have made many quilts using Villa Rosa patterns. I love your examples of 2 baby quilts with 1 layer cake! tizzy5552@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteSigned up as a follower. Look forward to reading more of your posts.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your versions of the VR patterns; your version of Gypsy is so sweet.
My favorite precut is charms; I typically cut them further into rectangles or squares for use in my quilts.
memorton@gmail.com
Great job.....great colors too... I love a 5" charm pack to sew with.... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteWow! you have been busy. Great idea to make and quilt two Gypsy quilts at once.
ReplyDeleteI like your wide table runner! My favorite precut is fat quarters. I end up chopping them into a lot of different things.
ReplyDeleteEboward@yahoo.com
Fat quarters are the most useful precut to me. I also buy charm squares. Great job on all your quilts.
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty quilts! I can't believe you got that many done. I think my favorite precut is a layer cake. There's so many options with them.
ReplyDeleteMrspcballard at Gmail dot com
Hi Carolyn! Great job on all of your projects and finishes. I just LOVE Me and My Sister fabrics. They always choose nice bright colors which are just perfect for baby quilts in my book. And a two-fer! I love quilting two pieces at the same time, too. It is a nice time-saver. We seem to use pre-cuts now and then but often feel frustrated with the inaccurate cutting/sizing. I would have to say my favorite is a jelly roll or a charm pack. I love having all of the fabric line represented in one pre-cut. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteGreat job on getting all those projects done!
ReplyDeleteI am not really interested in precuts; but if I had to choose I would say layer cakes.
I set up as a follower.
Thank you,

ReplyDeleteLiked your colorful baby quilts! Very colorful. Kudos for getting 2 Gypsy quilts and 1 Twinkle quilt done.
ReplyDeleteForgot my e-Mail: pedill@yahoo.com
DeleteMy favorite precut is charm packs. LOts can be done with a 5" square!! dove1615@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love charm packs because you can do so much with them and combine two or more for a table runner! Great samples that you made!! anneandbenhike@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI Love all of your combinations for all of the VR patterns, I’m so excited to try the table runner with charm pack!!!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteKim Straughn kimstraughn407@yahoo.com
I like the fabric you chose for the quilts and the your beautiful finished products. Charm packs are my favorite precut.
ReplyDeletemango968@earthlink.net
My favorite precut is fat quarters because it's just enough fabric for so many uses. It can be cut for use in applique, and for squares and strips.
ReplyDeleteI love using layer cakes. I like making bigger quilts and layer cakes give me enough variety and fabric to do this.
ReplyDeleteAmazing quilts. The me and my sister quilt is so pretty. Their colors are classic and always look good together. Love the yellow and gray runner; the large dots make it so bright and happy. And the half square quilt ( Twinkle) is an accomplishment. Great quilting design on it. I am sure you will get to binding it soon.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are so happy! I would have cut those dots bigger, too. I guess you need a bigger table now! Thanks for sharing. (I'm at shawkers@msn.com. Hope I win!)
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! 4 quilts from 3 patterns! And each is lovely! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are fat quarters but each precut pkg is an inspiring and awesome shortcut for new projects. -Diane. Dvcarousel4@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt creations! Creative way in quilting two baby quilts at one time! Beth - bhambeth@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHappy blog day. Like to use layer cakes to show off fabrics. Michelle mrush2@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful. I have that same layer cake. And I think it is a perfect baby quilt. My favorite precuts are fat quarters because they are useful in so many different patterns.
ReplyDeleteYou've earned yourself a medal for all the projects you've worked on for this hop! I especially like the Twinkle quilt top ...I'm hoping to make it using scraps from my multiple buckets! My favorite precut is a fat quarter. There are just so many ways to cut it and get good sized blocks...plus they are easy to store. duchick at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI like charm packs and the twinkle quilt is lovely with the sunflowers.
ReplyDeletedjcutting2(at) gmail(dot)com
I like fat quarter bundles, I can cut strips, squares, etc. all useful in my favorite patterns. Love the way you made the patterns. homemom570@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLovely projects. I use fat quarter bundles the most, but if I just like a fabric line and want it all, I buy a layer cake. Debf1243@aol.com
ReplyDeleteYour version of Gypsy is so cheerful and lovely! All three of your quilts turned out well! Someone else suggested Clover as a bed scarf - I hadn't thought of that?!
ReplyDeleteI like mini charm packs because I find it harder to cut those smaller pieces without cutting my fingers with the rotary blades. I really like your fabric for gyspy! I also like to use jelly rolls. They are so fun to do a race with them at quilt retreats. Thank you so much for sharing! Gingerdawnharman@live.com
ReplyDeleteI like charms because they can be used as they are but do not end up too small when cut into quarters or used to make HSTs and QSTs.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you must have had sewing for the Blog Hop!! You've got three lovely projects to show for it.
ReplyDeleteI like the layer cake the best. I use the charm packs a lot in English paper piecing! I can’t seem to sign in on here in my Google
ReplyDeleteI love jelly rolls but who knows why. Just easy to sew with. Jmikebalou (at) aol (dot) com
ReplyDeleteYour Gypsy quilt is absolutely adorable in those fabrics. I love fabric...period! The precuts I buy most often are charms, mini charms, FQ's and jelly rolls. I have very few layer cakes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely selection of quilts. Thank you for sharing them. I like to use layer cakes
ReplyDeleteWow, you made sew many of the VRD bundle quilts! They are all lovely! Charms are my favorite precut; I'm a scrappy quilter & you can cut up, or not, and make sew many things from charms!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great job you did on 3 quilts....such beauties. (no need to enter me in the drawing as I am a participant).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts! My favorite precut are jellyrolls or 2.5 strips. I think it's so I can quickly sew them together.
ReplyDeleteI like charm packs. They can work up quickly as is or I can subcut for more piecing fun. I am quite taken with twinkle and I like how you used dark cornerstones in the sashing. Yet another look for it! mail4kristine (at) msn (dot) com.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! And all of the Vila Rosa patterns showcased are great! I just clicked to follow your blog and I love layer cakes!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI like any of the square precuts; candy/charm packs and layer cakes. All of the fabrics in one, and easy to convert to triangles :)

ReplyDeleteGreat finishes! I guess fat quarters are my favorite precuts but they are all irresistible..... cmberry@lsu.edu

ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful! My favorite precut is fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are delightful! I love how fast these patterns come together. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work. My favorite precuts are fat quarters because they are so versatile.
ReplyDeleteI love the Twinkle quilt! That's definately going to be on my list to do. I like fat quarters as you can get a lot of variety, especially of a line of fabric, but still have enough to make a quilt
ReplyDeleteI think I've already commented but forgot my email. I love layer cakes, because in my twisted mind I get more bang for my buck, lol. Thank you for considering me for this contest. Jason_burnside@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteVilla Rosa patterns make great charity quilts, don't they? My favorite precuts are Layer Cakes, because they are so versatile. I can use them for the many Layer Cake patterns, or can cut them into Charm Squares, or just into smaller chunks as needed. I love having a variety of large squares of fabric. etalmage@earthlink.net
ReplyDeleteAll three of your quilts are fantastic! I have a jelly roll of that same sunflower line and should use it for one of these fabrics. My favorite precuts are layer cakes or fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have found 31! I have a number of panels that I really didn't know what to do with - other than add boring borders - this pattern is great! My favourite precuts are 10' squares. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love how that baby quilt came out! I love any kind of pre-cut as I'm horrible at cutting but I like layer cakes the best.
ReplyDeleteI like layer cakes because they are big enough to do lots of different things by cutting the squares. Ha Ha, get a pre-cut and then cut it! But it's a great way to sample an entire fabric line.
ReplyDeletelisaenglandvt at gmail dot com
My favorite precut is a jelly roll. So many patterns use them. Love your projects.
ReplyDeleteWow, you did great to get three made! They all turned out very well, too! My fave is probably an entire set of fat quarters (because it gives me enough of each to do about anything I need), next would be a jelly roll (I find the 2.5" measurement to work with so many quilts plus I generally toss any scrap smaller than that.). I will happily make my own precuts from my stash so maybe that's actually my fave: my own!
ReplyDeleteLovely to meet you through the Blog hop. Love you projects. gstanton 0408@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like charm packs! Sue/missmaggie54@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is the fat quater. edgarkevin@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is a fat quarter but I am trying to use up some of the other precuts I have on hand right now. egrasher@swbell.net
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is the layer cake. Pmrj333 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut are jelly rolls! Love them! I enjoyed reading your blog. I see you have an innova and a longarmer! Nice! gaynelquilts@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful quilt designs, fabric and colors. Totally awesome and definitely inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI like how your Gypsy &n Twinkle quilt turned out. The Kate's Garden charm pack looks very pretty. That will make a beautiful quilt. Aren't those Cafe du Monde beignets delicious! Glad to see they're still around and doing well. Went there quite a few years ago and made it a point to go there for the beignets and coffee.
ReplyDeleteI love Gypsy Rose and yours is beautiful. I also love the sunflower fabric.
ReplyDeleteI've never used pre-cuts so I don't have a favorite.
I follow your blog on feedly and decided to follow on Google Friends. It's always a boost to see you have one more follower.
